Are small farms and gardens going to be against the law? Well if the liberals in congress have their way it will be. This ridiculous law is just one of many that congress is going to push on us to protect us. Well I for one am getting damn tied of losing my freedoms to the government in the name of protecting me. I can protect myself. I dont need the help of the federal government. All that I need is that they stay out of my way. As is stated in this video, this law will only hurt small business. It will just create another layer of federal bureaucracy to further hinder small farms, and small organic farms. While, as is usual for most laws, it will not help us at all, or very little. If I have to die of salmonella to keep my freedoms, then I am willing to die, because like they say, freedom is not free. So if I understand this law correctly, the government will now monitor what you are growing in your own garden, what food you buy at your local grocery store, and even the fruits and vegetables that you buy at your local farmers market, what a joke. This is what is coming to America, total government control of your life, from what you eat, where you go, who you see, where your children go to school, what your children learn at school, etc. etc., I could go on and on. Just what part of total government control would someone not understand? Is this what Americans want? I dont think so, so we had better start acting up or this what we will get. jbranstetter04 …
Question: What are some unique, healthy and easy to make “comfort food” type dishes?
Preferably somethings that can be made with organic ingredients?
Answer:
Answer by musicimprovedme
Most soups are considered comfort foods and they can be very healthy. Brown your meat, then add veg of choice, stock, and if you like you can add barley, pasta, or rice. Use organics, fresh, homemade components as you see fit, kind of depends how you shop and how involved you are in the kitchen. A lot of soups you can take shortcuts that save lots of time and don’t affect the nutrition or cost…frozen veg for example. Just remember, if you add only healthy ingredients, you get only healthy food.
Crockpot beans are about the healthiest, cheapest, easiest thing you can possibly do. Serve over brown rice or with some whole grain chewy bread, with a green salad and light dressing. You can also use these beans to make a ground turkey chili, or you can add them to a minestrone soup, or you can puree some with a little of their own juice to make a bean dip for chips or Mexican food.
You can also do stuff like beef stew or pot roast…very easy in the crockpot, very healthy, just watch the added fat and salt and gloppy gravies and such. Rely on your fresh herbs and if you need a sauce use the au jus, or reduce it with some wine.
Pasta is a worldwide comfort food…toss with veg in an olive oil or light salad dressing or a fresh marinara with a bit of parm. Likewise pizza can be very healthy and kids love it…it all depends what you put on it.
Potatoes are popular everywhere too…cheap and plentiful, versatile and humble. We now know that potatoes are about the equivalent of same amount of white sugar…but you can improve on them…when you make mashed potatoes for example, you can blend in some cauliflower to reduce the carbs a bit and add some of the nutrition from the cabbage/broccoli family. You can also switch your white potatoes for sweet potatoes when you make fries or oven wedges and you can switch from mayo based potato salad to olive oil and herbed potato salad.
Fruit tarts are a relatively healthy dessert, they have some nutrition from the fruit, and they are honest real food, straightforward and uncomplicated…This is also a chance to use a lot of organic ingredients. And they are super easy to put together, can be free form.
You can make things like chicken pot pie a little healthier…better ingredients, a little less fat, crust on top only, thicken the gravy with brown rice or something instead of meaningless flour or cornstarch.
Also do note that sometimes you can mess with comfort food too much, and something gets lost in the translation. How do you fix mac and cheese? You DON’T! What you do is serve it every once in a while, in a reasonable portion, with a heaping green salad on the side.

Question: organic food..? scam or reality?
I myself try to lead a healthy lifestyle..eating healthy working out all that good stuff..but all new interest in “organic food” puzzles me..how can food truely be organic if our air has tons of pollutants in it..when we still have acid rain coming down on plants..and we still have bugs landing on plants and leaving fecal material on them…\…the air has chemicals and pollutants in it that the plants breathe..how can something truly be organic….using chemicals these days seems to be taboo..but if it wasnt for chemicals how would food stay preserved..how would there be medication that has saved my life and countless other’s lives..?maybe it is just me but i think organic food is a huge scam..i have known plenty of people that ate horribly their entire life and live to be well over ninety…is organic food really all its cracked up to be..or is it just another scam or trend that people tend to fall into?

Question: My brother is so anti-organic, that he refuses to eat perfectly good organic food?
Oh gosh, my brother is 19 yet still insane. He claims the organic industry is the devil because its yields less food, which he claims is just an insult to starving and poor people. Today we went to a restaurant and most of the items were expensive except for a perfectly good platter which was only 8.95 and was organic. But just because it was organic my brother started an uproar and claimed I hated africa by ordering something which was in his words, “smaller, yielded less food for the poor, disease ridden, with no proven health benefits” all because it was organic he refused to eat it and ruined a nice night out with my whole family because he felt it was supporting “an evil industry” by eating it. Oh god, my brother is truly insane, but he said the organic industry “convinced Zimbabwe not to incorporate non organic food which would of increased the food supply and feed those starving people, but NO, instead they decided to starve those people with organic food.”

Question: Is organic food safer than conventional?
Recent headlines like “Study Says Little Benefit to Organic Food” (http://news.aol.com/health/article/study-organic-food-not-more-healthy/596509, 7/30/09) are not only misleading but wrong.
They say “A new study from British researchers … shows little nutritional difference between organic and conventionally grown foods.”
The misleading part about this statement is that organic food is NOT SUPPOSED to have more nutrient content!
What they ignore is the fact that organic foods have LOWER PESTICIDE levels!
Pesticides are poisons, designed to kill insects; most pesticides are also toxic to humans, in more than one way: not only are they acutely poisonous in high concentrations, but most are also proven to cause cancer and other health problems in humans.
Most people eat organic food to REDUCE pesticide intake, NOT to increase nutrients.
See: http://www.foodnews.org/reduce.php for information about pesticide levels in conventional foods.

Your best bet is to either grow your own fresh foods, or find a local organic food store or farmer. Even the produce at the regular grocery store has some sort of pesticide. That food has been shipped miles and miles to get to your store and most likely also has some sort of preservative pumped into it to keep it on the shelf longer.

Let thy Food be thy Medicine and thy Medicine be thy Food — Hippocrates. That is the message from the founding father of modern medicine echoed in the controversial new documentary film Food Matters from Producer-Directors James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch. With nutritionally-depleted foods, chemical additives and our tendency to rely upon pharmaceutical drugs to treat what’s wrong with our malnourished bodies, it’s no wonder that modern society is getting sicker. Food Matters sets about uncovering the trillion dollar worldwide sickness industry and gives people some scientifically verifiable solutions for overcoming illness naturally. In what promises to be the most contentious idea put forward, the filmmakers have interviewed several leading experts in nutrition and natural healing who claim that not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kind of foods, supplements and detoxification can be used to treat chronic illnesses as fatal as terminally diagnosed cancer. The focus of the film is in helping us rethink the belief systems fed to us by our modern medical and health care establishments. The interviewees point out that not every problem requires costly, major medical attention and reveal many alternative therapies that can be more effective, more economical, less harmful and less invasive than conventional medical treatments.
